Design builds trust within seconds.
When a visitor lands on a website, they form a judgment within seconds: is this business trustworthy, current, worth taking seriously? That judgment is usually made before a single word is read — page alignment, use of whitespace, typography and load speed make the first call.
Web design is therefore not merely an aesthetic choice; it's the business's first moment of persuasion. A well-built interface guides the user; a poorly built one loses them — usually before a single sentence is read.

Speed is a prerequisite, not a feature.
Performance is no longer a separate line item in user experience — it's the foundation of it. Core Web Vitals metrics — loading speed (LCP), interaction readiness (INP) and visual stability (CLS) — directly affect both search rankings and a user's first impression of a page.
Heavy JavaScript frameworks force the browser to download large bundles and keep the user waiting through a "hydration" process before the page becomes clickable. A static page built directly with HTML/CSS/JS skips that step entirely: the browser displays the content the moment it reads it.

The small screen is the default screen.
Most traffic comes from mobile devices, which is why the design process should start from mobile and scale up, not shrink down from desktop. Touch targets, line length, menu behavior and visual density need to be rethought at every breakpoint.
Responsive design isn't just a single flexible grid; it's the content hierarchy reordering itself for screen size, unnecessary elements being hidden, and interactions adapting to touch input.

Accessibility is not a layer added afterward.
Sufficient color contrast, keyboard-navigable menus, a meaningful heading hierarchy and semantic HTML that works with screen readers — these aren't extra features, they're the basic components of a solid interface.
An accessible site doesn't just reach a wider audience; search engines read the page through the same semantic markers. That's why accessibility and SEO are so often built from the same decisions.

Motion is guidance, not decoration.
Well-crafted animation shows the user where to direct their attention: how a button responds on hover, how a section reveals itself as it enters view, how long a transition takes. These aren't details — they're what the interface actually feels like.
Motion design used with restraint enriches the experience; overdone motion distracts and hurts performance. The right balance comes less from which library it's built with than from the discipline it's applied with.

Users want information in the right order.
Information architecture is the plan for which order, which groupings and which connections present a site's content. Menu structure, page hierarchy and the placement of calls to action determine how many steps it takes a user to reach their goal.
A scattered information architecture pushes users into a place where they don't know "where they are" or "what comes next," which raises abandonment rates. A clear structure, on the other hand, makes even the most complex service understandable in a few clicks.
